Monthly to Annual Conversion
Annual = Monthly × 12
Hourly = Monthly ÷ (Weekly Hours × 4.345)
4.345 = average weeks per month (365 ÷ 12 ÷ 7)
Worked Examples
Working 8 hours a day, 22 days a month at $25 an hour gives $4,400 gross a month.
A $6,500 monthly salary over 173.3 US contractual hours works out to about $37.51 an hour.
How the Conversion Works
Korea uses a 209-hour monthly standard (40 hours a week plus 4.35 paid weekly-rest hours), the US commonly uses 173.33 hours (2,080 a year), and Europe varies between 151 and 174. Overtime, bonuses, allowances and tax are not included, and hourly-paid contracts may not guarantee the assumed days.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Why 209 hours in Korea?
- A 40-hour week plus 8 hours of paid weekly rest is 48 hours, multiplied by 4.345 weeks per month, which gives 208.6 and rounds to 209 for the minimum-wage calculation.
- Should I use 22 or 30 days for a month?
- 22 working days reflects a Monday-to-Friday month average. Using 30 counts weekends, which overstates monthly pay for a five-day week.
- Does the figure include my bonus?
- No. Ordinary wages and contractual allowances only; performance bonuses and overtime are added separately and often taxed differently.
