About Date Difference Calculator
Calculates the exact difference between two dates from days down to minutes.
Use Cases
- Days remaining until a trip, exam, or event
- Track contract expiry or project deadlines
- Find days elapsed since an anniversary
Worked Examples
From 1 January to 1 February is 31 days, or 4 weeks and 3 days.
A 90-day span is about 2.96 months (90 / 30.4375) and exactly 2,160 hours.
Why Months Are Approximate
Days, weeks, hours and minutes are exact. Months use the average Gregorian month of 30.4375 days, so a span that starts and ends on the same day number can show 2.9 months instead of 3. Business days, public holidays and time zones are not applied.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Are both dates included in the count?
- No. The result is the number of days between the two dates, so 1 May to 11 May is 10 days. For an inclusive count, add one day.
- How are leap years handled?
- The difference is computed on real calendar dates, so 29 February is counted whenever it falls inside the range. That is why the same month range can differ by a day between years.
- Can I count backwards?
- Yes. When the end date is earlier than the start date the difference is negative, and the absolute values still show how far apart the two dates are.
