📊 Stock Profit Calculator
Calculate stock profit from buy/sell amounts.
Profit Calculation Formula
Profit = Sell Amount - Buy Amount
Profit Rate = (Profit ÷ Buy Amount) × 100
Worked examples
Buying for $5,000 and selling for $6,000 gives a profit of $1,000 and a return of 20%.
Buying for $5,000 and selling for $4,250 is a loss of $750, a return of −15%.
What the result assumes
The amounts are the full cash paid and received, so any commission or tax should already be included in them. Profit is the difference and the return divides it by the purchase amount, which is the right base for a single round trip. For several purchases at different prices, use a cost-basis calculator instead.
Frequently asked questions
- Should the amounts include fees?
- Yes. Enter the total debited when buying and the net credited when selling, so the profit reflects what actually reached your account.
- What return is considered good?
- Historically a broad equity index returns about 7% a year after inflation, so a 20% single trade is well above average but also carries more risk.
- Why is my bank statement different?
- Because of settlement dates, taxes withheld at source or currency conversion. Compare net amounts rather than quoted prices.
